Spirited entrepreneurs with extraordinary ideas

We want to support businesses with a purpose. Why? Because we know the struggles of launching a business that breaks boundaries first-hand. TINCTURE's mission has always been to trigger change and shed light on false narratives. We want to use our platform as a voice for spirited entrepreneurs to share their ideas and passion that pave the way for the future of our community and planet. Join us, and uncover the stories of like-minded individuals

As you may know, SUGi is an incredible concept, a valued brand partner and has a mission very close to our hearts. Hear more about SUGi straight from the founder herself, Elise Van Middelem…

What inspired you to start SUGi?

I wanted to make it easy for anyone anywhere to build biodiversity, to know exactly where their donation is going and to watch each unique forest grow.

Can you tell us a little more about your plans for SUGi?

SUGi Pocket Forests are rewilding cities and schools in a very visible way. We just planted a thrilling new forest in Cadogan Gardens, we’re planting several forests in Glasgow during the COP26 meeting and we’re going to be planting the first ever Miyawaki School Forests in the United States in Berkeley, CA.

Do you have a favourite project so far?

Each forest is special and has its own remarkable story. Our first forest was planted in May 2019 in Beirut. The fact that the forest has not only survived civil unrest and that tragic explosion, but that it’s thriving stands for me as testament that not only is nature resilient but so is the human spirit.

What are your business' core values?
Restoring biodiversity in cities and reconnecting people with nature (rewilding). Transparency, accessibility, authenticity and community.

What challenges have you faced since starting SUGi, if any?

Finding the funds to move the growing Global Forest Portfolio is our key focus. Individual donations and brand partnerships are what allow us to create forests, so we’re always hustling so that we can rewild more spaces.

Do you have any good advice for anyone thinking of starting their own business?

Create resilience through a diverse, complex community around you! Just like Nature.

How do you switch off and relax to recharge your batteries? Any tips?

I’m the one who needs tips. Would love any suggestions from your community!

Do you have anyone in mind or any organisation you admire?

Admire or rather inspire? Mother Nature is a continuous source of inspiration. So is my team. I admire that they joined me on this journey! Admiration runs in many different ways. I just finished reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I’d do anything to thank her for the gift of her wisdom, kindness and inspiration.

If you could be given a “magic wand” what is it you would wish for?

For everyone, everywhere to have easy access to wild spaces. For native species to thrive and monoculture is abandoned.

Do you use Tincture products? If yes, do you have a favourite?

Yes, I do use TINCTURE products. It’s hard to choose one product in particular. Generally, they have put the sensory aspect of cleaning on another level for me. It will be hard to go back to other products.
